My journey with sewing began at age eight when I created an elastic waist skirt for 4-H. Growing up in a home where sewing was always present sparked a curiosity that sparked a curiosity that would grow into a lifelong passion.
Creating Gifts to Teaching Skills After years in education, I returned to my love of sewing by printing family photos onto fabric and sewing them into unique family gifts. My desire to teach led me into blending my sewing with teaching others how to create their own gifts. More doors opened as I expanded my business to teaching individuals of all ages to learn how to sew from the very beginning. This allowed me to watch students go onto sewing-related majors and careers, while others began to sew for their homes and families. As I watched the stories unfold, I saw how sewing was more than just a skill. It was a way to discover confidence, creativity, and lifelong learning.
A New Purpose in a Changing Season The year 2020 began reshaping lives including mine. It was through the closing of my sewing school and the loss of both parents (two of my biggest supporters) in just mere weeks of each other, that I took a step back to consider steps to move forward. What remained was just a girl, her sewing machine, and the lasting legacy of my unwavering and encouragement to teach the next generations coming along.
Why Sewing to Sow Exists It was through this journey that I knew that I wanted to encourage others in the same way they supported my journey.
